![]() if only cats could talk, what would they say about enjoying the sink as a place to sleep? this cat's name is sox. An Omen This is going to be Colin and I in 30 years. Brace yourself. Viewer discretion advised!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7hmMh7uD8o 11/27/2007It really is now MYspace I am now in charge of my myspace. So there. This is what i call "real" web site maintenance. For now, that is... ha ha. www.myspace.com/kathleenedwards 11/26/2007Hong Kong Crazy. I'm home from 2 weeks away in Asia, most of which i spent in Hong Kong. I went to visit my brother before my free time disappears. It looks like I'll be on the road starting in January, more updates to come on that, for sure. So here is a brief photo inspired recount of my trip..... 1. Lots of crazy food. I think it was on an Anderson Cooper documentary where i heard, "The Chinese eat everything". In China they say if their back is to the sun, it's edible. Having said that, vegetarian dim sum was the highlight of my trip. yum yum. these are called "Hairy Crabs". ![]() Different kinds of hairy crabs can be found at various sketchy motels. I did not eat this. But i did once catch a squid THIS BIG. ![]() I also did see some very cute pandas, in captivity, yes.... but thriving. One of them took a poo right in front of us. Thankfully, there was a glass divider, and as an added bonus, pandas are vegetarian. Their poo is green. A learning experience, for sure.![]() And i found Nemo. Him and his family are doing well. After all the wildlife type excitement, our family visited the largest outdoor buddha on Lantau Island. My Mom was representin' for all Blue Rodeo fans. How cute is that??!!In Hong Kong, the views are amazing... this was our view from one of the tallest restaurants in town.... ![]() and the view from my ferry seat. Ew. Good thing it was a calm ride. ![]() Well, that is all for now. Tour over. Leaving you with a photo of my bro and I having some delicious dim sum. Suggestions for great Toronto dim sum welcome.... ok. ![]() The End. 10/26/2007Dear Friends, I apologize for not being as diligent in updating my page. But it's official: I've finished my record. "Asking For Flowers" is the name of it, a release date will likely be sometime after the new year. My only regrets, not getting to sing with John Doe, Josh Ritter, Jim Cuddy, Jacob Dylan, and every other hot "J" singer i can think of. It's Friday night in a very quiet Hamilton neighborhood, I'm about to plunge into a bottle of red to celebrate my last weekend home for a while. I'm traveling all over between now and Christmas - including a very exciting adventure to Asia. I'll be spending a couple of weeks in Hong Kong with my bro and a few nights in Seoul, Korea.... where i spent a few years of my teenage life and haven't been back since. ..... funny enough, I'll be playing a few songs at a party for some Canadians and whoever attends to celebrate the opening of a new embassy on November 8th. I haven't been drunk on soju since i was 16, an adventure TBA! Also, Colin and I are thinking of spending our New Year in Austin, TX with our wonderful friends at Durham Electronics, who are currently working on a new pedal called the "Kittylicious". When turned on, my guitar makes a meowing sound, settings range from "kitten" to "horny alley cat". Wow! Well, that's it. Off to the wine cellar! (I'm so bourgeois..) K. 8/29/2007
![]() Here in California, working on songs in the studio. Today it is around 45 degrees, which is Canadian for damn HOT. Yesterday I had the pleasure of recording some tracks with lovely gentlemen, today I am singing alone and missing them.... maybe i'm going to wilco tonight and maybe i'm not.... ok, i am. Sky Blue Sky, here I come. I guess the winter will be here before too long, so i must return to my spot at the hotel by the pool.... while it lasts. My new favorite obsession is checking out photos of this new breed of cat called a Snowshoe. My heart hurts. K. 8/08/2007I'm embarrased to see my last posting was in May. Humiliated. Shocked. Horrified. But today has arrived and the new me with it, so here is a blog of substantial quantity (quality cannot be assured... sorry). My summer began with a couple of Ontario shows, most notably in my hometown, the wonderful Westfest. We played on the night of what COULD have been game 6. And despite a major disappointment in our beloved Senators, it was a relief to know I wasn't going to be playing to the 40 people in Ottawa who didn't care about hockey. Instead, I played to 7500+ on the streets of Westboro and had such an amazing night and was barely able to get through "Hockey Skates" without losing it while looking at so many familiar faces.... yes, i am a sentimental sap. Or possibly unstable. Thank you Sophie Reilly for sending me this picture. ![]() ![]() ![]() Also, I have been working at a winery in the Niagara region doing some very glamorous bottling, labeling, boxing and "tasting". I'm loving the employee discount, but more importantly, getting to know the folks who have a passion for wine is the real payoff. They also just got a great rating in a Canadian wine magazine for their 2005 Pinot Noir..... sadly, it was a bottle i didn't label. ![]() Another wonderful summer pastime was getting to hang out with my new best friend, Bert the horse. An olympic - grade champion giving me a pony ride.... my skills are limited, but the horse sure made me look good..... Bert has recently left Canada for greener pastures (no pun intended) to South Carolina where he will become the greatest horse ever. He loves bananas, and hopefully misses me as much as I miss him. Call me, Bert! One of summer's highlights is the bbq. Fear not, I have mastered the art of a fine grilled tofu, but also an occasional piece of chicken or steak. The best bbq'd veggie has to be the eggplant, with potatoes coming in a close second. Don't be fooled, the apron is a must, I love the way the chicken is checking out its cooked counterpart..... look away, vegetarians. So the record is nearing an end. I recorded some strings at the end of July and played in the string quartet. I haven't read music since high school i think (only 3 year ago...) and was a bit nervous and intimidated, but very proud to be doing that stuff on this record. Jim Scott continues to be a wonderful person to work with and I still have to pinch myself. Some nights I lay awake worrying about the quality of the work I have done, hoping this album won't fall flat on its face from my stubborn insistence that I be overly involved in most of the details. I have written a song called "Asking for Flowers" that I believe is one of the strongest songs I've ever written, so whatever comes in the future I know that I've been able to do something that I'm proud of. I'm hoping the record will be out by February.... I apologize if it has taken a long time to get my shit together, but I plan on being on the road for a long time come the new year and have needed some time to live a normal life. Oh here are some things I've been up to in the music department: John Doe's new album has a song called "Golden State" which i sing on. His myspace page is http://myspace.com/thejohndoething (I just checked the link and he has a live version of the song with someone else singing..... what a diss. Well, it's on the album. Sorry for the false alarm.) Plus, I'm tentatively planning on being at his show in Hollywood on August 25th to sing some more. I am appearing in the Jim Cuddy band for two shows in August filling in for Anne Lindsay, August 16th and 19th. I'll be singing with Jim Bryson when he plays Hugh's Room in Toronto August 15th. The rest of my time will be spent hunting down the asshole who has for a second time smashed our car window and realized there is nothing to steal. Well, that's about it..... xo Kathleen

![]() ![]() I'm sitting here at home on the sofa after a flight home from L.A., Bad Santa is on (wow, what a movie!!!!) and I'm still on California time, which means I'm sipping a celebratory martini. It was nothing short of a great week for me in Cali, Jim Scott sure is a prize and so are the musicians i've been lucky enough to play with. Here are some quick picks and more soon when this buzz wears off.... k

![]() MOTHER'S Day. It's true, I went to Niagara Falls, the most romantic place in the vicinity of Buffalo. Just like the hockey teams, (yes, i'm a sens fan) our side really IS better. I always thought that was some patriotic horse shit, but it is true. Having said that, we still get the same crappy weather as Buffalo, so i guess all in all we're even. I'm sitting at the airport, drinking a pint of guinness, enjoying life to its fullest (given the circumstances) and am about to embark on another round of recording with the lovely Jim Scott. More soon from the front lines of studio life. Cocktails to be had, for sure. 5/03/2007So the John Mayer tour has rolled to an end. We had a blast. Not in order here are the highlights: 1. Burke Carroll and Gary Craig. My two replacements on drums and pedal steel were a blast to hang out with. Such a treat to hear pedal steel every night. It was a seamless run, and musically, a lot of fun with two new faces, which is not easy to do. 2. The catering. Yes, i said catering! I can tell you that touring food sucks ass. BUT, the John Mayer crew have got it down. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the seared ahi, fresh salads, and a regular supply of fresh brownies and good coffee. 3. OTTAWA senators kicking ass. I may have not said this on stage in Buffalo, but what i was really thinking was, "Good luck, buffalo..... you're gonna need it, suckers!!!" THAT'S RIGHT. I know Don Cherry is with me and Ron McLean sure as hell is, so there. 4. Robbie MacIntosh. Finding out i was sharing the stage with a guitar player of such great talent was a thrill. He played on Talk Talk records, and has many, many other incredible musical liasons behind him. WOW. A gentleman to boot. Here is a picture of him onstage with us, including the lovely Tim Bradshaw as well on keys. ![]() 5. Last but never least I am a lucky lucky girl. I arrived home to a new addition to my life. My favorite custom color Gibson did in the 60's. But even better is the amazing fellow you presented me with it. I am SOOOOOOO spoiled.... ![]() Thank you to all of you who came and said hello during the intermissions, those of you who bought records, and all the lovely young women who came to see John and were very sweet to me as well. Good night. My pillow calls. Kathleen 4/28/2007oh and thank you dad for taking such good care of my most beloved.....
![]() Here we are in Edmonton watching John M. and his lovely band soundcheck. We had a day off yesterday and spent it in Saskatoon where we were graciously invited to come and play some songs at Amigo's, a great bar/restaurant where i long ago played a show with Danny Michel. Loads of fun, thanks to them for making our night off fun. Truth is, playing 40 minutes every night feels short and when days off roll around, we're all bursting at the seams for a gig. So maybe i can throw something together for our day off in Vancouver as well.... richard's on richards anyone? the railway? who knows, i'm looking into it, but it can be hard to put shit like that together at the last minute... except in Saskatoon! More soon, another pic or two.... thank you Tex for taking them ... xo ![]()
4/19/2007Howdeeee. Last night our band played in Montreal at the AMAZING Bell Center where the Canadiens (to be proper) play.... and yes, it's true, i actually got to smell Kovalev's bag. Ok, that came out wrong.... we got a great tour of the player's areas and i got to act like an idiot. Don't worry, though, my alliance to the Ottawa Senators has not been tested seeing as how the Canadiens are not in the playoffs. ![]() TONIGHT, i am going to game 5 of Ottawa vs. Pittsburg and you can be sure that i will be rooting for Alfredsson and the boys. The John Mayer tour so far has been incredible, and i have to say i have opened for a lot of people...... John's audience are extremely cool, open minded, very cute (hello girls!) folks to play for. So if you happen to be one of those people, thanks for making the "opening" for a big star a lot of fun. Also, I am now appearing in Jim Cuddy's new music video called "married again". And yes, i did get to kiss him. You can be sure some of the Blue Rodeo discussion board members find me particularly annoying for that, or perhaps just jealous. We had a great time making the video, it's funny as hell, and you may even see some dry humping. I am NOT featured in that part, thankfully. ![]() I'm working away slowly at my new album with Jim Scott and though i am slow like the tortise, i will eventually cross that finish line and have a new album out before too long, more updates soon from the road, thanks for dropping by. Kathleen xo

![]() Howdy. Here in California working with the lovely Jim Scott (looking grumpy behind, although he is NEVER grumpy!) Having a blast and only writing HITS. Well, the truth is hits be damned, I'm doing what I want. More soon, promise. Bye. K. 1/16/2007
![]() Just when you thought we'd seen it all.... I spotted this while sitting shotgun in Jim Scott's car in California. The fish wiggled his little tail back and forth and his evil red eyeballs watched us. Speaking of Jim Scott, it would seem that I found myself there recording some songs. So, if you don't like the fish picture, maybe you'll like that I'm recording a new album. Or trying to, at least. 12/28/2006
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() hope you got everything you wanted. splinter didn't take long to get over his stocking stuffer. 12/18/2006Yes, Justin Timberlake is hilarious. Just my kind of Christmas song! (after the one i posted the other day). Happy Holidays!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dmVU08zVpA&mode=user&search= 12/11/20061. The most powerful Christmas song, EVER. This will melt your heart for sure, or your ears....Oh%20Holy%20Night.mp3 2. Canadians!!! George S. on "the hour" recommended this tonight on his show, but you'll see he stole the idea from ME. You'll see from the date of my last blog (CBC, take note: I'm not unionized). Here is my suggestion, again. Hang up the bitches bling, baby.... on a goat. ![]() Now go to www.giftsthatmatter.ca We'll talk soon, right George? His only credential is that he has the BEST television show on weekdays at 8pm and also on Sundays (his recap 'best of the week' hour). Check it out, desperate housewives. |
